‘Management is doing the right thing’: Dr. Carl Balita

Dr. Carl E. Balita, popular radio host, entrepreneur and president of the Quezon City Chamber of Commerce and Industry was the keynote speaker at the joint opening of UP ISSI’s 113th Manager’s Course (MC) and 62nd Comprehensive Course on Instrumentation and Process Control (CCIPC) held at the second-floor open plaza last 25 June 2016. He began his speech by emphasizing that “Management is doing the thing right” or “tama ang pagkakagawa [Done rightfully]”. He also imparted important life lessons in 4 Ds: Discover what’s your life’s purpose, dream big, design how to connect for the ultimate purpose, and destiny. The “level up” concept is a recurrent theme in his inspirational talks in ISSI as he always encourages the participants to aim to be leaders beyond “just being managers”. Meanwhile, in his opening remarks UP ISSI officer-in-charge and UP Diliman Vice-Chancellor for Research and Development Dr. Fidel R. Nemenzo said, “This year’s MCs are special as they mark the 50th year of [ISSI].” “This is also a special week because of the University graduation on Sunday,” he added. He encouraged the participants to make the most of their time at the Institute, use the opportunity to upgrade their skills and build network of contacts towards the goal of making themselves better leaders and their respective organizations more efficient. MC is a core program of ISSI which seeks to develop the managerial human resources among far-sighted business enterprises that are out to improve their productivity, quality, and competitiveness both in the local and domestic markets. The 113th MC will run in 21 Saturdays from 25 June to 12 November 2016. Meanwhile, CCIPC is a targeted program for mechanical, electrical, electronics, industrial and chemical engineers which aims to improve instrumentation and process control systems of firms as used in the industry. The 62nd CCIPC will run in 6 Saturdays from 25 June to 30 July 2016.
