The former head of the Training and Entrepreneurship Education Division at the ISSI, Glennis S. Uyanguren, recently feted with the Puso Award in the 2021 Parangal at Pagkilala para sa mga Kawani at Retirado ng Unibersidad ng Pilipinas. Ms. Uyanguren’s award was one of the categories of the Galing, Utak, Puso at Dangal (Galing UPD) Honor and Awards Program of the University of the Philippines that was instituted last year.
Based on the guidelines set by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration, the Puso Award (Inspirasyon at Husay Kagalingan Award) “refers to the recognition of individual’s inspiring real stories about any member of the administrative staff or research, extension, and professional staff (REPS) in the University” and these stories should “inculcate positivity in the work culture of the Unit and an inspiration to others around them.”
Gleng, as everyone called her, “has been an inspiration to the ISSI colleagues and to the marginalized sectors of the community. She always shared her knowledge and compassion with the people around her. She was continually serving the people even during the pandemic”, as relayed by Edge Uyanguren, Gleng’s husband, during the virtual ceremonies of the program held last June 23, 2022.
An active member of the All-UP Academic Union, Gleng still worked with the Union until her sudden demise due to a stroke on December 16, 2021.
“Gleng always shares her blessings. She is the light in every corner of the house,” an emotionally-laden Edge finally said about Gleng.
Meanwhile, three more ISSI staff received honors during the hour-long program.
Loudes P. Cubillas, of the Director’s Office, was honored for her 44 years of service in the University while Gloria S. Recio, former head of the Research Division, and Mohidin P. Abdul, of the Training and Entrepreneurship Education Division, were given posthumous recognition for their years of service to the University.
