Celebrating MSME Week : UP ISSI, LEEIPO initiate SWED for MSMEs of La Union
In celebration of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises week in La Union, the University of the Philippines Institute for Small-Scale Industries (UP ISSI) in partnership with Local Economic Enterprise and Investment Promotion Office (LEEIPO) of the Provincial Government of La Union spearheaded a Seminar-Workshop on Enterprise Development (SWED) for the MSMEs of La Union held at Ynad’s Place Hotel and Resort on July 18, 2024.
For its second year of partnership, UP ISSI’s training program aimed to develop an entrepreneurial mindset among the participants and to guide them in formulating a simple business canvas.
Dr. Eleazar Belgica, Executive Assistant to the Office of the Governor, delivered the welcome message, representing Gov. Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David, while Provincial Board Member and chairperson of the Trade, Commerce and Industry committee Henry B. Balbin gave an inspirational message to the participants.
In addition, Mr. Gerard Joseph Alava, visiting professor from Virata School of Business of UP Diliman served as the resource person and discussed salient topics including Business Life Cycle, Entrepreneurial Mindset, Price Setting and Competitive Pricing, and Selling Techniques. The workshop concluded with the submission and initial evaluation of their simple business model canvas.
Mx. Jake A. Villanueva, University Extension Specialist from the Training and Entrepreneurship Education Division and Ms. Melanie Sangalang, Administrative Officer III from the Administrative Delivery Division were the Program Manager and Program Coordinator, respectively.
Meanwhile, the last day of La Union MSME week highlighted the Kaya Con Summit in which Mx. Villanueva served as the resource speaker with the topic “Being in the Forefronts of Capacitating the MSME Sector and Youth Productivity,” held at the La Union Convention Center on July 19, 2024.
