As the global job market becomes increasingly competitive, traditional career paths are no longer the sole option for young people. Starting a business enables the youth to take control of their future, transform their ideas into reality, and create opportunities not only for themselves but also for others.
In our rapidly evolving economy, youth entrepreneurship is emerging as a powerful force for change. Young people, brimming with passion, creativity, and determination, are stepping into the entrepreneurial world, not just to achieve personal success but to contribute to social change and progress. They create business that generate opportunities to reduce unemployment, eradicate poverty, and provide local opportunities for our countrymen. These enterprises also allows these young leaders to drive innovation and construct platforms that support their advocacies like the building models for sustainability to save our environment.
UP ISSI kindles this entrepreneurial spirit through the conduct of various programs for the youth. For 2024, a series of training programs began with the a Micro Business Game in partnership with German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation (DSIK) for the UP Integrated School Students on n May 6 and DOST-PCAARD Youth Science Program in Los Banos on July 9. These were followed with advocacy programs such as the Start Your Own Business for UP Diliman Students on August 12 and Entrepreneurship 101 Seminar through the Sangguniang Kabataan of Marikina City on Oct 1. The year was closed with the run of three batches of the Seminar Workshop on Enterprise Development initiated by the Quezon City Youth Development Office that culminated last December 13. These programs guided the participants in developing an entrepreneurial mindset and in assessing their personal entrepreneurial competencies. The different functional areas of business such as marketing, production, human resources, and finance were also discussed.
In UP ISSI, we believe that continuously developing programs and building collaboration with various agencies through an exchange of expertise and support, we could empower the youth to reach their maximum potential. Together we all could create programs that supports and celebrate the innate unique capabilities of the youth that would enable them to not to be just be resilient leaders of tomorrow but the changemakers of today.
