QUEZON CITY – To equip micro-scale vendors with skills on operations and financial management, the University of the Philippines Institute for Small-Scale Industries initiated a seminar-workshop on Enterprise Development and Business Continuity Planning for the Metro Manila Vendors Alliance last March 1-2, 2023 at Room 301 of E. Virata Hall.
Through the Communities of Practice for Entrepreneurship (COPE) Program of the Institute which aims to bring entrepreneurship education to communities with lesser access to such service, the Research Division (RD) and Training and Entrepreneurship Education Division (TEED) collaborated to conduct the two-day training participated by 59 vendors.
Prof. Rolando Ramon Diaz, Head of TEED, emphasized in his opening remarks the goal of the extension program for the vendors in the community, while Mr. Jefferson C. Sumalabe, University Extension Specialist (UES) from TEED and Mr. Joshua Garcia, UES of the Business Enterprise Development Division discussed the important notes on operations management and bookkeeping and cashflow respectively.
Moreover, Mr. Garcia continued his discussion on financial management while Ms. Joanna Rose T. Laddaran, UES from TEED, shared her expertise on Business Continuity Planning.
Mr. Reynold Ferdinand G. Manegdeg, Head of BEDD, highlighted in his closing message that time is the most important investment in a business specifically in learning and improving.
“Nagpapasalamat (kami) sa oportunidad na makadalo at matuto ng mga bagong kaalaman na di nila inakalang malaking tulong para sa kanilang maliliit na negosyante at manininda,” said Domingo Bengala, Norma Capate and Analisa Labado, class representatives during the class response segment.
They also expressed their gratitude for the patience of the speakers and coaches and that they are happy to share what they gained and learned to their fellows in the community.
Ms. Allysa Anne M. De Guzman of TEED and Ms. Melanie V. Cabotaje of RD led the UP ISSI team in the conduct of the event. Specialists and associates from UP ISSI also assisted the participants as coaches during the workshop.
