UP ISSI kicks off the new year with a stratplan

 

UP ISSI kicked off the new year with a strategic planning workshop on January 5, 2024, facilitated by UP ISSI Director Melanie Moraga-Leaño. The session aimed to deliberate on the plans and direction of the Institute for the year, while also reflecting on its achievements from the preceding year.

The event commenced with Dir. Leaño delivering her opening remarks, urging the staff to embrace the values encapsulated in K.I.L.O.S. – Kakayanan (Ability), Inspirasyon (Inspiration), Lakas ng loob at pangangatawan (Courage and Determination, and Physical Health), Oportunidad (Opportunities), and Saya (Happiness) as they embark on the new year.

Ms. Georgina Ang-Dy Pay and Ms. Glenda Glodoveza from UPD HRDO were invited to discuss the Performance Management Module in Personnel Unified Systems Outlook (PUSO). They provided a demonstration of the task/target entry process for the Performance Evaluation System (PES) of Research Extension Professional Staff (REPS) within the PUSO platform. This aligns with the University’s current mandate to migrate to the electronic submission of Performance Targets and Ratings for staff through PUSO.

The presentation of accomplishments of each division started with Mr. Darrem Bautista showcasing the collective achievements of the Administrative and Delivery Division (ADD) and Director’s Office (DO) highlighting the three (3) runs of BUYanihan sa Diliman MSME Showcase, publishing of two (2) Newsletters, recruitment and promotion of administrative and REPS staff, updating of UP ISSI trust funds, procurement of various equipment, and maintenance and repair of UP ISSI facilities to ensure the seamless functioning of the Institute’s operations.

Meanwhile, Mr. Joshua Garcia presented the accomplished and ongoing projects resulting from collaborations with various partners of UP ISSI. These partners include the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), PJ Lhuillier, Inc. (PJLI), Dana Asia, Tonik Bank, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), Centre for Neighborhood Studies (CENS), UP Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (UP TTBDO), UP College of Fine Arts, among others. Mr. Garcia also highlighted the advocacy programs initiated by the Business Enterprise Development Division (BEDD) in supporting MSMEs.

Dr. Ian Jester de Vera, Head of the Research Division (RD), highlighted their accomplishments, focusing on the active participation and paper presentations by RD staff at both local and international conferences. They successfully completed two research papers addressing the digital technology adoption of women entrepreneurs and the utilization of digital marketing by Philippine MSMEs in the tourism industry. Additionally, RD organized and led the 1st International Conference on Entrepreneurship and SME Development (ICESMED) 2023. RD is currently engaged in a Market Analysis on the Local Dairy and Milk Industry, a collaborative project with the National Dairy Authority (NDA), and is also overseeing the preparation of the ICESMED 2023 Conference Proceedings.

The Training and Entrepreneurship Education Division (TEED) presented their completed projects, with Ms. Joanna Laddaran delivering the report on behalf of the TEED Head, Mr. Rolando Ramon C. Diaz. She highlighted the division’s successful completion of 49 regular and special training programs in the previous year, engaging a total of 1,281 participants from January to December 2023.

The afternoon session included the presentation of divisional plans and activities for the year, along with the facilitation of the Report Card Activity for the staff by Dir. Leaño. The Strategic Planning concluded with Director Leaño synthesizing the event and Mr. Rolando C. Diaz, Head of TEED, delivering the closing remarks.
