UP ISSI, DSIK Philippines Host Business Game for Grade 12 UPIS Students
To promote critical thinking and financial literacy, the University of the Philippines Institute for Small-Scale Industries in cooperation with Deutsche Sparkassenstiftung für internationale Kooperation (DSIK) Philippines, a non-government organization based in Germany spearheaded the Micro Business Game (MBG) among the Grade 12 students of UP Integrated School (UPIS) held in UP ISSI on May 06.
Twenty-three learners from Accounting, Business and Management track participated in the interactive board-based game that challenged them in decision-making, forecasting and resource management and allocation along with balance sheet making and proper accounting of assets and liabilities.
“This is the second batch of participants from UPIS, and this shows how interested the students and that this also gave them an experience they can use should they pursue having their own businesses in the future,” said Mr. Neil Grimaldo from the Training and Entrepreneurship Education Division (TEED) and focal person for the MBG.
The business game aims to provide learners the experience on how to manage a Micro Business effectively using an experience-based approach, and highlights the principles on marketing, market competitions, financial tools, and entrepreneurial mindset.
Mr. Percival V. Yaya, adviser for Financial Education and Microfinance and Ms. Czarina Joyce Bandong, adviser for Capacity Development and Learning Platforms from DSIK Philippines led the facilitation of the practical exercise. In addition, Mr. Grimaldo, Ms. Joanna Rose T. Laddaran, Mrs. Maria Fe Reyes, Ms. Senedith Delos Reyes, Mx. Jake A. Villanueva from TEED, and Mrs. Melanie Cabotaje from the Research Division served as co-facilitators.
UP ISSI Director Melanie M. Moraga-Leaño also graced the event and delivered the opening message emphasizing the skills they can develop and enhance through the activity.
