UP ISSI imparts entrep knowledge to young aspirants in  Laguna 

The University of the Philippines Institute for Small-Scale Industries conducted a lecture on Developing an Entrepreneurial Mindset for 23 students of the Youth Science Program of the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST – PCAARRD) at Los Baños, Laguna, July 09, 2024.

Ms. Joanna Rose T. Laddaran, Cluster Head of Program Development and External Affairs of the Training and Entrepreneurship Education Division of UP ISSI served as the resource person to the students of the Philippine Science High School (PSHS). 

In addition, the students partook in a Micro Business Simulation Game (MBS) conducted by UP ISSI in partnership with Deutsche Sparkassenstiftung für Internationale Kooperation (DSIK) Philippines. 

Percival V. Yaya, Adviser for Financial Education and Microfinance, DSIK Philippines, Fred Costa, Project Adviser, DSIK Philippines, University Extension Specialists Ms. Laddaran, Neil Grimaldo, and Jake Villanueva, facilitated the activity.

The DOST-PCAARRD created the Youth Science Program to enhance the participation of the students in the Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources (AAR) sector. This initiative encourages the youth to become the next generation of science and technology (S&T) leaders through learning from programs and interactions. 

The collaboration between DOST-PCAARRD and UP ISSI was made possible by the association of Annette M. Tobias, Project Leader of the DOST-PCAARRD’s Youth Science Program, and Ms. Laddaran as the outcome of their training in the Workshop on Supporting Youth in Entrepreneurship conducted by the Asian Productivity Organization and the Korea Productivity Center on November 7–10, 2023 at Seoul, Republic of Korea.

Some MBS co-facilitators from ISSI participated in recent Youth Programs abroad. Mx. Villanueva participated in the Development of Productivity Practitioners among the Youth by the APO in cooperation with the Mongolia Productivity Organization held on  June 10–14, 2024 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Meanwhile, Mr. Grimaldo participated in the Workshop on the Business Model Canvas for Startups and Entrepreneurs spearheaded by the APO and in collaboration with the Singapore Productivity Centre held on June 25 – 28, 2024 in Singapore. 

The UP ISSI’s participation in the program also aligns with the Institute’s Developing Next Generation Pinoypreneurs Program which is an initiative launched on December 13, 2023 as a result of Ms. Laddaran’s participation in the APO Workshop on Supporting Youth in Entrepreneurship.
