UP ISSI Marks Completion of Internship Program for BA Speech Communication Students
The University of the Philippines Institute for Small-Scale Industries (UP ISSI) recently concluded its internship program for BA Speech Communication students from the College of Arts and Letters – Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts (DSCTA), UP Diliman. The program marked the completion of the students’ 100-hour practicum at the Institute, which ran from June 19 to July 7, 2025. The internship culminated in a closing program held at E. Virata Hall, featuring presentations of the interns’ outputs and reflections on their learning experiences—both as students and as aspiring professionals and entrepreneurs.
Supervisors from various divisions of UP ISSI—including the Business Enterprise Development Division (BEDD), Research Division (RD), Director’s Office (DO), and the Training and Entrepreneurship Education Division (TEED)—were present to acknowledge the interns’ efforts and contributions. Certificates of completion were then awarded by UP ISSI Director Prof. Melanie M. Moraga-Leaño and Speech Practicum Faculties-In-Charge, Asst. Prof. Kate Ashlyn Dayag-Nonay and Ms. Mia Trixia Ella O. Tejada.
In her message, Director Moraga-Leaño emphasized the central role of communication in the workplace, particularly in UP ISSI’s nature of work that empowers micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). She also commended the interns for their adaptability and reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to providing a healthy and dynamic learning environment where student interns feel safe to learn, contribute, and grow.
This was followed by a message from Asst. Prof. Dayag-Nonay, who expressed her appreciation for UP ISSI’s continued partnership with DSCTA and for providing Speech Communication students with valuable hands-on experience.
Messages of encouragement were also shared by internship supervisors, who expressed their gratitude for the interns’ contributions and urged them to continue applying what they’ve learned in the service of the public.
