A Strong Start: ISSI Head Leads REPS Workshop Kickoff

QUEZON CITY — University of the Philippines Institute for Small-Scale Industries Director Melanie M. Morag-Leaño underscored the importance of clarity, credibility, and ethical communication as she opened a month-long workshop series for Research, Extension, and Professional Staff (REPS) held in Rm. 303 of UP ISSI building and via Zoom on March 26, 2026.
The Research, Extension and Professionals (REPS) Welfare Council and Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Development of UP Diliman spearheaded the capacity-building workshops.
Designed to empower and equip REPS with practical tools for academic writing, proposal development, professional reporting, and digital communication, Sulatin, Ibahagi, Itaguyod: A Month-Long Workshop Series for Enhancing Research, Extension, and Professional Communication commenced with TALASTAS: Building Clarity and Ethical Foundations in Communication.
“The first step is knowing yourself. The first person to like you should be you. You cannot appear credible if you don’t believe in yourself, ” said Asst. Prof. Moraga-Leaño.
She emphasized that effective communication is not innate but developed through continuous training and experience, urging participants to treat it as a long-term professional commitment.

“Kapag tayo ay nagsusulat, importante ang 7 Cs: clarity, conciseness, concreteness, correctness, coherence, completeness and courteousness,” she said while providing relevant examples and activities for the workshop.
Moreover, she discussed key concepts in informative and persuasive communication, as well as grammar and punctuation, supported by practical examples and interactive activities tailored to various professional contexts.
